I was starting to feel that my mosaics were getting stale – same colors, same materials, same pictures. Tonight I decided to try something new. I went to Laurel Skye’s website for inspiration. She makes mosaics that are inspired by tapestries. I looked at some work by her students to get an idea of the materials they used and how they put their designs together. My design isn’t reminiscent of a tapestry; it’s similar to the doodles I’m constantly creating. Laurel does not use grout on her tapestry mosaics but I think I’m going to.
You can probably tell there will be more to come with this design. Sometimes 4 inches seems very small.
